Needlefelting with Jodi Colella
THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE HOSTED ON ZOOM. ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN TIME.
This is a two-day class.
Day 1: Tuesday, 1/12, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Day 2: Tuesday, 1/19, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Learn the technique of needlefelting with wool and a barbed needle to create your own wooly sculpture. Indulge in the satisfying meditative activity of punching fibers with a needle while learning to mix color, create surface texture, compose shapes and customize your design. Includes learning basic techniques as well as some of my secret inventions for building larger forms. Once you start you won’t want to stop!
Materials provided (these will be shipped to you, with the fee included in your registration fee):
-Felting Needles in sizes #38, 40, 42
-Foam pad, 3 inch thick to punch needles into while felting
-Wool fleece batts and roving (about 8-16 ounces per student depending on their projects)
In addition to the materials kit, please have a small pair of sharp and pointy embroidery scissors (for carving objects)
All program registrations close 1 week prior to the program date, at 5pm.
ZOOM links for all classes are sent out the day before the first class date, no later than 5pm.
About Jodi Colella:
Jodi Colella exhibits and teaches internationally. She is a member of Boston Sculptors Gallery and the recipient of a 2019 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship
Award for Sculpture.
Jodi’s exhibitions include The Textile Museum in Washington D.C.; Textile Center, Minneapolis; Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton; World of Threads, Toronto; and Da Wang Culture Highland in Shenzhen China among others. She has collaborated on several public art projects, and her work is held in multiple museum collections. Recently interviewed for WGBH’s Open Studio with Jared Bowen, her work has featured in The Boston Globe, Surface Design Journal, The Woven Tale Press, Vasari 21, Artistry in Fiber, POSIT and TextileArtist.org.
