WEEK 1: Thursday, May 21st, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
WEEK 2: Thursday, May 28th, 10:00 -11:30 AM
All levels. Maximum of 15 students
This 90 minute 2-part online workshop (via ZOOM) invites artists to discover the importance of maintaining a relationship with a sketchbook. The sketchbook is a wonderful tool in any studio practice to improve creativity, explore ideas, stay inspired and motivated. It becomes a visual diary committing to paper those ideas rattling in the brain.
WEEK ONE:
We will meet online and through discussion, video demonstrations and written instructions, artists will be assigned 3 sketchbook exercises using materials easily found at home. These exercises will engage artists in the process of playing as it is the beginning stage of creativity allowing more risk taking since a “finished” piece is not the goal here.
As a result of doing one or all three of the exercises artists are encouraged to photograph their work and send these to as a JPEG (no larger tha 5MB pe file) to Rebecca Schnopp (rschnopp@cambridgeart.org) and to me at marthawakefield514@gmail.com Tuesday 4/26 no later than 12 noon. These images will be put into a slide presentation for the next session. Please send 1 image per exercise. Questions about digital image sizing? Click here for our general guide.
WEEK TWO:
We will meet back in ZOOM on Thursday, May 28th at 10 AM and review the work as sharing the results leads to further ideas, discovery of new materials and processes. At the end of the workshop you may find some gems to explore further in your art practice.
This class will meet online via ZOOM preferably on your computer. iPad and smartphone can also be used, but you will need to download the Zoom app. Martha will send an invitation in advance to join the ZOOM class. Instructions for using Zoom will be sent prior to the first class.
